Healthy, filling meals, served daily

The Soup Kitchen serves a to-go lunch Monday-Saturday at 11:00. We serve 100-200 plates each day to men, women, and children who are hungry, often as a result of homelessness, mental illness, or disability. There is no sign-up required: anyone in need can simply come get in line. Recent menu items have included chicken pot pie, Spanish rice with kielbasa, pasta salad, buffalo chicken bites, taco soup, shepherd’s pie, and macaroni and cheese. In 2023 over 37,000 meals were served.

You can adopt a day in the Soup Kitchen through our Sponsor a Meal Project! For many this is the only hot meal they will eat today. With your support we’ll have a nutritious meal ready for each person in line! You can adopt a day, week, or month of meals. Many people give sponsorships as gifts to loved ones or clients! Food Rescue Project

Reducing waste and feeding the hungry

Part of our Soup Kitchen, the Food Rescue Project works with local food providers interested in donating leftover or about-to-expire food to those in need. This perfectly-good food would otherwise be thrown away and instead goes to feed hungry families! Some of this food is used as ingredients in our daily Soup Kitchen lunches and the rest is handed out to our guests alongside their meals.

We pick up donations from the Bates College cafeteria and the Hannaford supermarket almost every day and also work with groups including Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston Public Schools, and Target. We also accept donations from restaurants, summer camps, and events – foods prepared in a commercial kitchen. Any food scraps from Trinity are collected and donated to a local pig farmer or composted. A team of volunteers picks up Food Rescue Project donations more than 15 times each week!
