Need is growing, but our space can’t keep up
Every day, new people learn about our services and knock on our door.
But our cramped rented space in the basement of the Trinity Episcopal Church can no longer keep up. We cannot serve our neighbors with efficiency and dignity in this cramped space and frequently face difficult decisions on how to use our very limited space.
Our Challenges
For three decades our work has grown. Our programs serve more people and more programs are added. We have far outgrown our space!
- Our Day Shelter is forced to turn homeless people away when the room reaches capacity.
- Our Soup Kitchen distributions are held outdoors, year round.
- Our medical, mental health, and substance misuse services are limited by a lack of private meeting rooms.
- Our food distribution capacity is limited by a lack of storage space for nonperishable and perishable foods
- Our space is cramped, has no ventilation, and is not accessible for guests with mobility challenges.
Our Vision:
In late 2024 we break ground on a new facility. It will offer nearly four times the space. At 10,000 sq ft, it eases practical burdens imposed by our current space, allowing our small staff to focus on what’s important: caring and compassion.
- The Day Shelter nearly doubles in size and a shower and laundry facilities are added.
- There is a dedicated medical clinic room and several private meeting rooms for client meetings with case managers and counselors.
- A walk-in refrigerator and walk-in freezer allows more food to be received and distributed
- More work stations are added to the office to assist more people with resumes and job applications.
- All Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry distributions move indoors and this large room will also be used by partner agencies for workshops and classes.
Join Us:
Our community’s need is great, but the difference you can make is even greater. We’ve raised $4.38 million — including a recent $2 million federal award — of the total $4.98 million cost to build this new home. We’re so close to our goal, but we need the help of our neighbors to reach it.
Will you join us in creating this compassionate refuge where our neighbors in need, young and old, can escape despair and rekindle hope for their future?
Your gift will help us provide essential services, including meals, shelter, and support for the hungry and homeless.
